Every tour on this site can be made private, but sometimes you want something that isn't on the list: starting in Casablanca or Tangier, adding the Atlantic coast, a week of trekking, or a slow trip with small children.

Tell us how many days you have, where you start and finish, and what you love. We'll draw a route, suggest places to stay at your budget, and send you one clear price. You can change it as many times as you like before you book.

When a fixed itinerary doesn't fit

Our set tours cover what most travelers want, but many trips don't fit a template. You may be arriving in Casablanca and leaving from Agadir. You may have nine days and want to see the desert, the mountains and the coast. You may be travelling with a grandmother who can't do long drives, or with teenagers who want quads and sandboards. You may simply want to stay three nights in the dunes.

That's what this tour is for. You tell us what you'd like, we suggest a route with honest driving times and good places to stay, and we change it until it's right. Then we run it with the same team, the same camp and the same care as all our tours.

How we plan your trip

• You send us your dates, the number of travelers and their ages, where you start and finish, and anything you'd love to do or avoid
• Within a day we send you a day-by-day route with driving times, suggested hotels and one clear price
• You ask questions and change what you like: more nights here, fewer there, a different hotel
• When everything is right, we confirm it in writing and send you the final plan
• During the trip, your driver and our team in Merzouga are a phone call away

Ideas for your route

Every custom trip is different, but these are some of the routes our guests ask for most often. They're starting points, not menus.

• Marrakech, the High Atlas, the desert and Fes in 5 to 6 days, with two nights in the dunes
• A family loop from Marrakech with short driving days, a night in Aït Benhaddou and three nights around Merzouga
• Casablanca or Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech in 8 to 10 days
• The desert and a few days of hiking in the High Atlas or the Dades valley
• The Sahara and the coast: Merzouga, the gorges, Marrakech and Essaouira
• A honeymoon with luxury tents, boutique riads and private dinners

Accommodation your way

We work with family-run guesthouses and kasbah hotels we know personally, from simple and charming to boutique and luxurious. Tell us your style and budget and we'll suggest places to match. If you've already booked some hotels, we'll plan the driving around them.

In the desert, you can choose a standard Berber tent or a luxury tent with a private bathroom at our camp, or a guesthouse in Merzouga if you prefer a room with walls. Many guests mix them over several nights.

Families, groups and special interests

For families we keep driving days short, plan regular stops, provide car seats on request and choose hotels with space for children. For groups we use larger vehicles and can split into two cars if the group wants different things on some days.

We also plan trips around special interests: photography (golden hours and night skies), fossils and geology around Erfoud, birdwatching at the seasonal lakes, music and festivals, food and cooking with local families, or walking and trekking.

What a private tour costs

The price depends on the number of days, the number of travelers, the hotels and the activities you choose. A private vehicle costs the same for one person or four, so private tours are good value for families and small groups. We send one clear price with everything listed, and what we quote is what you pay.

Entrance fees, lunches, drinks and tips are usually not included, so you can choose where you eat and how much you spend, but we can include them if you prefer an all-inclusive price.

Why plan with a team from Merzouga

Many companies selling desert trips are based in Marrakech and send you to someone else's camp. We live at the foot of the dunes, the camp is ours, and our drivers do these roads every week. That means honest advice on what's possible, what's too much, and what's worth the extra day.

If something changes during your trip, the weather, a closed road, a tired child, we can adapt the plan on the spot, because the people who make the decisions are the people looking after you.

Sample: 6 days from Marrakech to Fes

To give you an idea, this is a route many couples and families ask us for. It's a starting point, and every part can change.

• Day 1: Marrakech over the High Atlas to Aït Benhaddou, night in a kasbah
• Day 2: Skoura and the Valley of Roses to the Dades gorge
• Day 3: Todra gorge to Merzouga, sunset camel trek and night at our camp
• Day 4: A free day around Erg Chebbi: nomads, Khamlia, Rissani, or rest
• Day 5: Second night in the dunes or a guesthouse, with sandboarding or a quad ride
• Day 6: North through the Ziz valley and the Middle Atlas to Fes

• Days 1 to 2: Casablanca and Rabat, then to Chefchaouen, the blue city in the Rif

Travelling with children

Morocco is a wonderful country for children, and families are welcomed everywhere. On a private tour we plan short driving stages of two or three hours, stops with something to do (camels, markets, a walk in a gorge), hotels with space and sometimes a pool, and simple food on request. In the desert, children ride with a parent or on their own camel led by the guide, and they love the sand, the fire and the stars.

Tell us the ages of your children when you write, and we'll suggest the right pace.

What to send us

The more we know, the better the first proposal. Tell us your arrival and departure dates and cities, the number of travelers and the ages of any children, the kind of hotels you like, and two or three things you'd most love to do. Mention anything you'd rather avoid, such as long drives, early starts or crowds. We reply within a day with a route, honest driving times and one clear price, and adjust it until it's right.

Best time to go

We run private trips all year and shape the route around the season: mountains and gorges in spring and autumn, more time in the desert in winter, and early starts with long shady lunches in summer.
